Have you been to Mochi?

When it’s sweltering outside and that damn Florida sun won’t stop burning your back—just cool down at Mochi! Mochi is the hippest, trendiest, most modern frozen yogurt cafe around. Located at 3841 SW Archer Blvd, Mochi is a great pick-me-up on a hellishly hot day or an after dinner treat.

Eight self-service ice-cream, ah hem, I mean frozen yogurt machines sit in the back and offer flavors like Strawberry, Mango, Almond, Cookies n Cream, Coco-nilla, and Taro.

Once you get the frozen yogurt— it’s on to the toppings bar, where you can find every topping your heart could desire. From fresh diced kiwi’s, watermelons, pineapples, raspberries, strawberries, mangoes, hand-picked blueberries and blackberries, white chocolate, coconuts, pound cake, captain crunch, chocolate chips, granola, almonds, walnuts, peanuts, M&M’s, and of course Mochi! – a gummy Asian rice cake made out of sweet rice flour.

And the grand total is only $.45 cents an ounce— on average mine totals about $5. The atmosphere is advanced, eco-friendly and trendy, with pastel pink oblong tables, plastic pink chairs and Wi-Fi access it’s a great place to escape the Florida heat. And with no fattening calories like ice-cream or gelato, you’ll forget that this desert is good for you. 0% fat, low-calories, and cholesterol-free!

Mochi has two other locations in Orlando and Jacksonville, and another one opening in Downtown Gainesville. For more information visit their website at mymochiyogurt.com.

UF Safety Tips

Walking home at 1 a.m. after spending six hours in Library West is never fun. It can get kind of scary out there— not to mention dark. There’s no way to know who’s lurking around that corner (it could be this guy),

So here are the best tips to protect yourself on campus:

1. CALL SNAP: if you’re on campus and walking doesn’t seem extraordinarily safe, call SNAP (phone number) they’ll be there in 15 minutes and take you anywhere your heart desires…well, on campus. (352)-392-SNAP

2. DON’T TAZE ME BRO: Andrew Myers made that quote so famous, but now-a-days it’s necessary to walk around with a little equipment! Tazers run about $400, which is a little too expensive, but MASE is a suitable alternative. Spray directly in the eyes and RUN!

3. USE YOUR FRIENDS: I mean that’s what they’re there for! If one of your buddies can’t pick you up, just call and let them know your location and what time you’ll home.

4. PRESS THE BLUE BUTTON: There are blue emergency towers strung all across UF’s campus. While walking at night try to stay close to these light posts, because if anything happens, push the blue button and you will be in direct contact with UPD.

5. CALL A CAB: It’s ok to splurge and spend a couple dollars to get home safely. I’m sure your dad won’t mind you asking for a couple extra dollars if it means his little ‘pudding pop’ is home safe.

PLACES TO GO:
1. UPD: Located on Museum Road, heaven forbid if anything happens to you— but they make sure they take care of every single student out there.

2. ARE YOU READY TO KICK SOME BUTT? At Racquet Club, in addition to kick-boxing, they offer self-defense classes like Tae-Kwon-Do to make sure you rock any offenders world!

3. R.A.D: (Rape Aggression Defense): Hate to admit, but as a female, it is very easy to take advantage of my 5’3, 130 lb frame. This class shows females how to kick butt in any situation!

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR STUFF:
1. REGISTER PLEASE: Something I used to never do, but once you register your product, it proves ownership. And once ownership is proved warranties and refunds will come much easier if your item is stolen or damaged.

2. DON’T GIVE IT UP: Stop giving out passwords! Unless you change them every time you reveal your secret you’re putting yourself at risk for identity theft. No one wants to know your password is SirPootsAlot321 anyways!

3. KEEP YOUR EYES ON IT: When at the library or up studying late, it’s so easy to leave your stuff unattended while heading to Starbucks. You better move that load with you!

4. BE MODEST: Don’t flaunt your new IPOD touch, killer cell phone or wads of cash in front of bad company. You look desperate and liable to get it taken from you.

5. PREPARATION H: Be prepared for the worst, but hope for the best! Honestly, your goodies can be snatched from you at any moment.

Maha Mantra: Festival of India

I had the pleasure of interacting with the Hare Krishna's today. Apparently this little India Festival happens every year, but this is the first time I've seen it. The Krishna's did the damn thing by frontin' me a plate and providing me with some musical entertainment. Hanan let me get a plate of that delicious vegan food for the free. Well, I promised I'd come back and pay him- which I most certainly will!

Wow, honestly, I haven't met people so delightful! Who would of thunk with all that intrusive dancing and those foul smelling spices? He said he just didn't want me to miss out on the lunch, and oh was is it delicious. There were also some Krishna's out there humming and singing about the joys of being reincarnated into a deer versus a frog, and a guy with a sombrero explaining veganism.

Hanan called me the girl with the 'big books', h a h a. I wish he meant big boobs. But I'll take it, I've got a bunch of knowledge stored away in my noggin- stuff that I forget, stuff that you'll forget I'll told you, places I've never been and people I've never seen. There might have been hippie jewels in that Krishna food because I feel like I'm in the middle of a dream and I couldn't come back to reality if I wanted too.

Chokin' on Hookah

Dude, in case you didn't know, Gainesville is not the place for big city people. Me and mi homie were just looking for a place to go get a little faded on a Sunday nite... didn't realize that was a problem until I see that Fridays closes at 11, Chilli's, Ale House, Swamp, Cooper Monkey, Beer Pit, and even the gas station guy wouldn't sell us any liq...11 p.m.? Seriously, 11 p.m., my little sister doesn't even go to bed that early. A N D it was raining...Man, ya'll can have that! So anyways, while looking for something to do, we stumbled upon this hot little spot called the 'Hookah Hutt'... First of all, I'm not a fan of hookah, because it doesn't do anything but taste good, but honestly this place was a good time... black lights & highlighers. Hippies & Rockers, Hookah & Mumba's. We ended up staying there until 3 a.m. and tell me why we only paid $5 each. Believe dat.

Summit on the Summit: Clean Water Crisis

Can you imagine life without FIJI waters and no hot showers? I don't think so! Yet, every day 4,000 children die from drinking unclean drinking water! In an effort to raise awareness:: PUR Water Filtration recruited celebrities and activists like Lupe Fiasco, Jessica Biel, and Emile Hirsch and others to climb Africa's tallest mountain: Mt. Kilmanjaro to raise awareness for the world's water shortage. Together they produced
Summit on the Summit, a documentary about Africa's current water crisis.

The climbers spent time in a Tanzanian village where they saw the effects of the global water crisis. In America, we are privileged-- currently, over one billion people across the world don't have access to clean drinking water and are forced to drink from bacteria-filled rivers and streams which quickly lead to disease and death.

This problem can't be solved overnight, but PUR Water Filtration is working on ways to end the dirty water epidemic. Among other appliances, they have invented the PUR sachet which is a tiny packet of powder that transforms potential fatal water into PUR water within 30 minutes. Do what you can. Stop leaving the faucet running when your brushing your teeth, for God sake's, and stop buying all that damn bottled water... like seriously the kiddies are depending on you.

Wild Splash Review

Wild Splash 2010 was phenomenal. No lies. We go there late, of course, but we got there just in time to see Yo Gotti. He was so early in the day that he was really less than memorable, but he did have a lot of bling. And then my girl Trina came on and rocked it. I swear she's worn that outfit before, but the girl is thick and bad and therefore can do whatever she likes. Even rock a less than celebrity-worthy weave. She's still a million-dollar girl, tho.

And then the New Boyz-- Oh LAWD- did anybody else realize that the New Boyz are cuter than cute? I was going to say sexy, but our age difference will not allow it. But give them a couple years and some meat on their bones, OOOOOO BUDDDY. Hehe.

****Now it's Bobby Ray, aka B.O.B's turn. Yup, it was love at first site. He'll tell you-- "Nothing on You" was all about me! But real talk, I enjoyed B.O.B's performance, I like how he's so daring and doesn't give two fucks what anyone thinks. In the middle of a Rap and R&B concert he brought out a live band and had everybody just moshing and rocking out. I don't know if he was perpetrating, but he was holding a guitar like he knew how to play. Lol. Teach me! B.O.B come to me!

All the performances were great- I'm biased towards B.O.B, but everyone at WildSplash will agree that Damien Marley was that fiyah! Maybe because that's when everyone started blazing - it smelt like a marijuana field and everyone was burning all the 2 for $1 Good Times possible. Hehe, Good Times.

Needless to say, everyone was high and happy when the final performer came on... my nigga from the 239 mother-effin PLIES! Never in my life have I been smushed to the point where I couldn't breathe...only with Plies. These females were going insane, they (including myself) bum-rushed the stage just to get a taste of this lil' nigga.I've always liked Plies cause he's from Fort Myers and that's not to far from my hometown Port Charlotte. But this man knows what he's doing - he's got game, skill, money (he gave $10,000 to a 12-year old girl on stage) and swag- the only thing he's missing is height (I'm sure he makes up for it somewhere else.) But damn, there's something about Plies... don't know what it is tho. Wild 94.1, ya'll did it! WildSplash 2010 was well worth the $35. I have no complaints, except that ya'll could have had more seats. Pretty girls with pedicured toes don't like to stand.
