Bear Creek Music Festival 2009
The weather was perfect this weekend. Perfect for over 5,000 music lovers to come and attend the third annual Bear Creek Music and Arts Festival at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida, according to the Spirit of Suwannee Music Park report.
The air was filled with artistic expression as over 50 musical artists and 12 painters banded together along the raging banks of the Suwannee River for the sake of music, dance, art, food and the community.
Upon admission to the arts and music festival, each patron was required to bring a canned good or non-perishable food item to benefit The Food Bank of Suwannee Valley.
“It was a great time,” festival-goer Natasha Smith, 24, said. “There were so many different types of people coming together – letting their hair down, swinging their arms and just rocking out.”
Some featured artists included Georgia’s Perpetual Groove, Fred Wesley & the New JB’s, Lotus’ trance and dance fusion, Third Stone, Trombone Shorty, the contemporary funk sounds of New Orleans’ Galactic, Robert Walter’s 20th Congress and their neo-soul keyboard, Steve Kimock’s Crazy Engine, Toubab Krewe’s ethnic beats, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, southern rock group Hill Country Revue, UK’s The New Mastersounds, The Slip, Lettuce, Bonerama, Pnuma Trio, Zach Deputy, Karl Denson, The Mystery Show, Papa Mali Band, Garage A Trois and Yonrico Scott Band.
The whole weekend was an interactive experience. While the musical artists were performing; artists within the crowd were busy creating live artistic interpretations of the events they saw on stage. Featured artists included Sal Clinton from New York, Frenchy from New Orleans, Bean Spence from Tampa, Fl, Vort and Cank from Baltimore, MD, and Carrie Curtis from Winter Park, Fl.
Aspiring artist Ashley Colson, 20, enjoyed the atmosphere and said she will be coming back to future festivals. “From what I saw everyone was genuinely having a good time. It was good to be out there for the weekend and relax, get to know nature, hear music and learn a little bit about yourself in the process,” she said.
